Nutrition is the foundation of our lives. But what if that same nutrition no longer pairs well with our bodies? When our body does not respond by getting more energy from nutrition, but instead becomes fatigued by nutrition, or even inflamed inside and/or outside?
‘Ortho’ means healthy, correct or right and ‘molecular’ refers to the molecules our body needs to function properly.
Orthomolecular therapy thus focuses on balancing the necessary substances so that the body can restore itself using proper nutrition, lifestyle changes and supplementation with supplements if necessary. With the aim of reducing or even eliminating your symptoms such as food sensitivities, hormonal imbalance and skin complaints, among others.
The why and when of Orthomolecular Therapy?
Choices we make on a daily basis undeniably affect our bodies, as do food and lifestyle choices.
Prolonged exposure to negative influences triggers a response in the body. The body wants to regain balance at any cost. But when that fails, unpleasant complaints can arise.
This can be felt on the inside and sometimes also seen on the outside.
Rosacea, acne, but also insomnia, fatigue and non-bacterial infections can be caused by an orthomolecular imbalance in the body. This can go as far as to lead to osteoarthritis and joint pain.
Needless to say, it is important to spot it as early as possible. Everyone has a stomach ache or other complaints once in a while, but if you have weekly or even more frequent complaints, it can affect your life and it is time to take action.
How does an Orthomolecular Therapy pathway work?
An orthomolecular therapy pathway starts with yourself. Prior to the first consultation, a food diary is kept to gain insight into your daily pattern, what do you ingest and are these possible substances triggering a reaction in your body. Additionally, you fill in a questionnaire, so the therapist gets a good insight into who you are.
During the first consultation, an extensive anamnesis is conducted based on the completed questionnaire. Your (physical) history is discussed in detail and your request for help is determined from there.
Based on the anamnesis and the food diary, one or more additional tests may be prescribed, including a blood and/or stool test or a DNA test.
Based on this information, our therapist will draw up a personal treatment plan.
This plan will include advice on adjustments to your lifestyle, your diet, as well as advice on supplements/herbs to be taken to restore any deficiencies.
During the programme, our therapists will guide you in adapting your lifestyle and diet to achieve a healthy result.
Preparation
As described above, before the first consultation, a food diary should be kept for at least 2 weeks and a questionnaire should be filled in. This is to start the anamnesis with sufficient insight into the current situation.
