Lichen Sclerosus

Lichen Sclerosus is a skin condition that is inflammation-related and can occur all over the body, but mostly occurs on the labia, in the vulva and around the anus. The symptoms are mainly sagging, dryness and atrophy of the labia (both inner and outer labia), in addition to which whitish ‘spots’ may appear. Unfortunately, a definitive solution to the cause of Lichen Sclerosus is not yet in sight. However, the symptoms can be treated.

The why and when of a Lichen Sclerosus treatment?

The reasons for a Lichen Sclerosus treatment are twofold. On the one hand, it is aesthetically desirable to treat the affected area. This mainly revolves around the altered shape of the labia. On the other hand, the symptoms associated with Lichen Sclerosus are usually the reason for treatment. A lot of women suffer from irritation, chafing and/or pain during daily activity, especially sports and intimacy. The Lichen Sclerosus treatment

In regular medicine, the underlying cause of Lichen Sclerosus is treated with corticosteroid ointment, with a high fat content. Which protects the skin from the outside and suppresses the underlying inflammatory response. 

Unfortunately, this treatment does nothing about the pre-existing atrophy and additional vaginal dryness. Mommy Skincare Clinic has thus committed to treating precisely these symptoms using Desirial injections. 

The Desirial formula has two variants, both of which address the symptoms of Lichen Sclerosus. First, the Desirial-plus thickens the outer labia, providing better protection for the vulva. Because the Desirial-plus also has a hyaluronic component, it also provides better hydration of the skin from the inside, resulting in less dehydration of the outer labia.

The second Desirial formula is to combat dryness in the vagina. Through tiny injections into the vaginal opening, a gel, again hyaluronic-based, is injected. This formula improves moisture in the vagina, reducing irritation, chafing and pain.

Which parts of the body are treated?

Treatment is mainly carried out on the outer labia and the vagina, as this is where the main complaints occur.

However, in common cases, the anus and the area around the anus are also treated. This mainly occurs with atrophy (around) the anus, so the filling Desirial formula is applied.

Preparation

Prior to treatment, the area to be treated should be clean. In addition, hair should be short or absent, but not recently shaved due to possible irritation.

Aftercare

After treatment, it is important to rest the treated area for the first five days. Cycling (including spinning), sauna visits and sex are not allowed during this period.
