In Short
About the Treatment
Lipedema treatment is not intended to treat or cure lipedema itself. Instead, it focuses on reducing the visible cosmetic effects of lipedema.
Using HIFU, the treatment is designed to target areas of localised fat accumulation and improve the symmetry and overall contours of the legs.
The Result
Reduced fat accumulation, more defined contours of the legs and improved symmetry.

Before & after

Do you experience heavy, sensitive or painful legs that appear disproportionate to the rest of your body? Do you feel that losing weight has little effect on the volume of your legs? Lipedema could be the underlying cause.
At Mommy Skincare Clinic, we offer a non-invasive lipedema treatment for stage 1 and stage 2 lipedema, focused on the subcutaneous tissue and improving body contours.
During a personal consultation, we assess your individual situation and discuss whether our treatment is suitable for you.
What Is Lipedema?
Lipedema is a chronic condition characterised by an abnormal distribution of subcutaneous fatty tissue. It occurs almost exclusively in women and is typically visible on both legs.
Common characteristics of lipedema include:
- Symmetrical fat accumulation in the legs
- Relatively slender feet compared with the lower legs
- Heavy or tired legs
- Sensitive or painful fatty tissue
- Easy bruising
- Disproportionate body shape
- Limited changes in affected fatty tissue despite weight loss
Lipedema is not simply the result of overeating or lack of exercise. It is a condition affecting the fatty tissue and therefore requires a different approach from ordinary localised fat accumulation.
Lipedema or Cellulite?
Lipedema and cellulite are not the same.
Cellulite primarily affects the appearance and texture of the skin, creating what is commonly referred to as a dimpled or orange-peel appearance. Cellulite is most commonly found on the buttocks and thighs.
Lipedema, on the other hand, involves an abnormal distribution of subcutaneous fatty tissue. In addition to changes in appearance, it may be associated with symptoms such as pain, tenderness and a feeling of heaviness.
This is why we approach lipedema differently from cellulite.
Lipedema Treatment: How Does It Work?
Our lipedema treatment uses HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound). The treatment is targeted at the subcutaneous tissue within the selected treatment area.
The treatment is designed to improve the contours of areas such as the legs and buttocks.
Because lipedema tissue can be particularly sensitive, the treatment is performed carefully and tailored to your individual body and pain tolerance.
What Does a Treatment Involve?
1. Personalised Preparation
We cleanse the treatment area and carefully mark out the treatment zone. This allows us to work in a controlled and targeted manner.
2. Ultrasound Gel
A specialised ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area. This ensures effective energy transmission from the Ultraformer 3 HIFU device.
3. Targeted HIFU Treatment
We then use the treatment handpiece to target the selected area. The settings are adjusted according to the treatment area and your individual sensitivity.
Throughout the treatment, we continuously monitor how your body responds.
4. Finishing & Aftercare
After the treatment, we remove the gel and check the skin. You will then receive personalised advice regarding aftercare.
Treating Stage 1 and Stage 2 Lipedema
At Mommy Skincare Clinic, we treat stage 1 and stage 2 lipedema only.
This is important because not every form or stage of lipedema is suitable for a non-invasive treatment.
If you have stage 3 lipedema or experience severe symptoms or complications, we recommend consulting your GP or physician first.
Not sure which stage of lipedema you have?
During your consultation, we assess your individual situation and discuss whether our treatment is suitable for you.
Which Areas Can Be Treated?
Treatment can be applied to various areas affected by lipedema.
At Mommy Skincare Clinic, we primarily focus on:
- Lipedema of the legs
- Lipedema of the thighs
- Lipedema around the hips
- Lipedema of the buttocks
The areas to be treated are determined during your consultation, based on your body structure, symptoms and treatment goals.
Comfort During Your Treatment
Lipedema tissue can be more sensitive than normal fatty tissue. That is why your comfort is an important part of every treatment.
We continuously monitor your response throughout the procedure. If necessary, we can gradually build up the treatment intensity.
We also avoid treating directly over:
- Prominent bony areas
- Superficial nerve pathways
- Major blood vessels
- Varicose veins
Your comfort and safety are our priority during every treatment.
What Results Can You Expect?
Everyone responds differently to treatment. Results may depend on factors such as the stage of lipedema, the amount of affected tissue and your individual circumstances.
Our treatment is focused on improving the body contours and appearance of the treated area.
It is important to maintain realistic expectations: lipedema is a chronic condition, and a cosmetic treatment does not cure lipedema.
During your consultation, we will therefore discuss honestly what you can expect from treatment and how many sessions may be appropriate for your individual situation.
Lipedema and Skin Laxity
When the volume of subcutaneous tissue changes, the structure and appearance of the skin may also change. If skin laxity is present, an additional skin-tightening treatment may be worth considering.
At Mommy Skincare Clinic, we also use HIFU for skin tightening. HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound and uses focused ultrasound waves.
Whether HIFU is suitable as an additional treatment will be discussed during your consultation.
What Can You Do Yourself If You Have Lipedema?
A healthy lifestyle remains important when living with lipedema.
Regular exercise, maintaining muscle activity and a healthy weight can contribute to your overall health and physical resilience. If fluid retention is present, movement and compression may form part of a broader treatment approach.
Treatment at Mommy Skincare Clinic does not replace medical treatment or guidance from a doctor or other healthcare professional.

FAQ’s Lipedema
Can lipedema be treated?
Lipedema is a chronic condition and cannot simply be cured through a cosmetic treatment. Treatment may, however, be aimed at reducing symptoms and/or improving the appearance and contours of the body. The most appropriate approach depends on the stage of lipedema and your individual situation.
Can you treat every stage of lipedema?
No. Mommy Skincare Clinic exclusively treats stage 1 and stage 2 lipedema. During your consultation, we assess whether your individual situation is suitable for our treatment.
Is the treatment painful?
Lipedema tissue can be sensitive. We therefore take your individual pain tolerance into account throughout the treatment and can gradually build up the treatment intensity if necessary.
Where can lipedema be treated?
We primarily focus on the legs, thighs, hips and buttocks. During your consultation, we determine which areas are suitable for treatment.
Is lipedema the same as cellulite?
No. Cellulite primarily involves changes in the texture and appearance of the skin, whereas lipedema is a condition affecting the subcutaneous fatty tissue. Both can occur at the same time.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies from person to person. During your consultation, we assess your individual situation and create a personalised treatment plan. We will also discuss realistic expectations regarding the results.
Can I lose weight if I have lipedema?
Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is important for your overall health. However, the fatty tissue affected by lipedema often responds differently to weight loss than normal fatty tissue. As a result, the volume of affected areas may change relatively little through weight loss alone.
